Shift Happens – Lives Change

For more than three decades, The Arc of Delaware County has been committed to a proactive philosophy and positive approach in supporting children and adults with developmental and intellectual disabilities. Having created a remarkably successful program structure, now Delarc employees consult with agencies and organizations across the country to help them "Make the Shift," by following the Delarc roadmap for transforming organizations and their effectiveness.

Delarc uses positive approaches when dealing with even the most severe behavior problems, and in fact has a Board of Director’s policy prohibiting the use of aversive behavior techniques including physical restraints. From the way they care for the people they support to the way they treat their colleagues, everything Delarc does is built on an atmosphere of caring without restraint.

Proactive, positive, and preventive philosophies, techniques and tools are utilized. Physical interventions are prohibited.

The results are impressive. Ever-maturing relationships eliminate power struggles, attentive care replaces stifling supervision and control bows to respect.
